I’ve Finally Found the Right Home Water Filter

Best part? It’s under the sink so I’ve got filtered water on tap!

For years, I’ve gone back and forth about what’s really best when it comes to drinking water. Tap water is convenient, but often comes with chlorine, fluoride, and other impurities that aren’t exactly appealing. On the other hand, bottled water might feel “cleaner,” but it comes at a high price — not just for our wallets, but also for the environment with all that single-use plastic.

And here’s the kicker: recent studies have found that bottled water isn’t always as pure as it seems. Many brands actually contain microplastics — tiny plastic particles that end up in the water during the bottling process. That was a wake-up call for me. Bottled water may taste fine, but it isn’t necessarily free of contaminants.

That’s why I made the switch to home water filtration years ago. And honestly, it’s one of the best choices I’ve ever made.

My Experience with the Berkey Filter

Like many people searching for cleaner drinking water, I started out with a Berkey gravity filter. It’s a solid choice and worked really well for a long time. The water tasted crisp and fresh, and I felt better knowing I wasn’t relying on bottled water filled with plastic waste and microplastics.

But after years of use, I eventually needed to replace the filters. That got me thinking: maybe it was time to explore other options.

Exploring Under-Sink Water Filters

I looked into under-sink filters for a more permanent, low-maintenance solution. One of the first systems I tried was Water2O. It’s a compact and effective filter that does a great job on many contaminants.

But there was one catch: fluoride. To address that, the system needed a second filter specifically for fluoride removal. While it worked, I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of constantly stacking filters just to cover the basics.

Why I Ultimately Chose the Maverick Filter

After more research, I decided to go with the Maverick under-sink filter system. It’s bigger than the others, but that’s actually a good thing — it means more filtration power and fewer compromises. Unlike the smaller systems, the Maverick is built to handle it all, including fluoride, without needing to bolt on extra filters.

For me, it’s the best balance of convenience, efficiency, and peace of mind. The water tastes fantastic, and I know it’s being filtered thoroughly.

The Bottom Line

Bottled water isn’t the solution — it’s expensive, creates plastic pollution, and often contains microplastics you don’t want in your body. Tap water on its own isn’t ideal either, but with the right filtration system, you can have clean, safe, and great-tasting water right from your sink.
